Dead Man's Shoes

Returning home, a soldier, played by Paddy Considine, returns to his small home town and inflicts revenge on all those who tormented his relatively slow brother, played by Toby Kebbell, while he was away. One by one the thugs meet with their fated revenge as the soldier lets loose all the hate he feels.

This film was recommended to us to watch and study for our research into social realism. Shane Meadows, I feel, has managed to create a gripping and thrilling plot line, keeping the viewer on the very edge of their seats almost from the very beginning,The atmosphere created adds to this, being dark and challenging, Camera shots and angles helped to create a sense of disorientation at times, the use of black and white flashbacks, and the chilling music from Calexio helped to build this atmosphere.

As the narrative of the film was about an EX soldier returning home for revenge, it is similar to our film idea. By watching this film, I now have a much firmer grasp on what makes a dramatic and effective social realism.
